sounds like you I know your way around with a wrenchand welder. I need to weld the studs on my gas tank I put my bike down and the couple in the studs cracked
I would try brazing, it doesn't get as hot so it's not as likely to wreck as much of the coating inside the tank. It's easier to make airtight as well, if that's a concern
