Morini engine, Stretch frame, Nexus 8speed hub

This is a work in progress. I will post more about it later with more pictures.

07/23/09 The engine is a 49.8CC 3.2HP and it is upgradable to 5.8HP. I only have about 30 miles on it and most of them test runs. It seems as strong or stronger than my HT engine. My speedometer read 44mph when i opened it up recently. This is the same as the HT engine but the Morini isn't broken in yet. The Morini has some vibration at midrange but smooth at high rpm. Some of it may be the clutch and I hope it gets better. It is barely audible when idling compared to the HT. The pipe I have is loud (for me) but I'm working on it. I included a picture of my rear motor mount/jackshaft combination. It also holds the idler for the jackshaft to crank chain.

The rear hub is a Shimano Nexus 8 speed with a roller brake added. The hub is rated for offroad use and has about 400 motorbike miles on it with no problems.

i-paint Can you detail some of the finer things about this Morini, the power, ease of starting etc. I have heard from some guys that this is really worth the extra bucks for this engine. Did you have much fabrication work to do, two weeks of afternoons sounds like an extensive amount of time. Can anyone get this done or is it you have to be part mechanical genius?

The engine isn't broken in so I can't make an honest comparison. The power is about the same right now compared to the Chinese engine I took off this bike which had all the tweaks done to it. I still have many Chinese engines and parts and they do a good job for what you pay for them. This is a hobby for me so the amount of time I spend with it is enjoyable. You need a basic mechanical understanding and a welder to build a custom bike.

Hi
Nice job on the bike I am trying to build one myself I would like to know how you are going to stop it looks like you have a coster brake but with the sickbike crank you can not use a costerbrake. any hints would be great thanks Craig

The rear brake is part of the hub. It is a shoe type brake. It uses a hand lever. The front is a disc brake.
