Water Bottle Used As Spare Gas Tank ?

I think I get too thirsty and absent minded to fill my water bottle with gas.

yes -- got to wonder about the true safty of gas carried in a water bottle
people ask me often -- how far can you go on a tank of gas
I tell them that I have two tanks -- one engine tank -- one water bottle gas tank
many say the same thing as you
they wouldn't trust themselfs with that set up !!!

is it truly safe -- we must say no --------
not the best example today -- water bottle still used for gas....

for anyone wishing to use their water bottle for gas
note -- my second plastic water bottle is holding up great

maybe be lost in the shuffle -- but to remember if trying this
do not buy the water bottle with the rubber o-ring inside
on the one that I had -- the o-ring melted -- ended up in the gas

the all plastic one -- with no o-ring ----- seems to work out fine -- don't drink !!

I contemplated this very thing a while back. I decided my safety was worth more than the $20 I spent on 2 MSR fuel bottles, with screw IN caps. They fit the water bottle holders just fine, hold almost exactly one tank full of (pre-mixed for my 2 stroke) gas and I never worry about them leaking or breaking. I like to save money just as much as the next guy....but this is one area where I didn't feel it was prudent to skimp out....
