so...moving on...first things first, a good evening of recharge, then i'll rewire a charging jack onto the other side of the spdt switch. i'll be able to seal the box up real nice after i get done:

I have a couple of questions. Would it be possible to use a dynamo to charge the batteries? If so any idea how I might accomplish this? I found a custom circuit (http://www.tunecharger.com/homepage_113.htm) that would do it but the guy lives in France and does not have any available at the moment. It would be great to have some batteries on the bike that are charged by a dynamo so you never have to remove the batteries from the bike to charge them. Sorry to sidetrack but I thought this sort of related to this project.

i have said a coupla times now this is my project topic, based on my research and design decisions. new ideas about lighting are being openly-discussed elsewhere on the forum.

where most of my research came from: http://nordicgroup.us/s78/

the rest i learned right here :)

Awesome link! Everything you need to know about lighting for bicycles written in Plain English. Good find Augi!

Any Clue on how many hours of light you are able to get with your battery?

i need to maximize if i'm gonna do any long distance riding, so i'm going to be looking to finalize the system with a 5w wedge-base tail light & a 10w wedge-base xenon headlight. bummer, i was loving the dual lamps, but it just ain't gonna cut it. i need at least 4 hours at a shot without dragging my charge beyond recovery. i could go with more candlepower, but the balance of all factors (cost, runtime, effectiveness, weight) always brings me back to technical reality.

someday, an led running light system will fit the budget...that will buy me a ton of daylight runtime.

I received this response to my email asking about the dynamo battery charger from www.tunecharger.com. I thought this might be of interest to you Augi.

Hi Jesse,

The coming soon MTC 4.3 charger will be an immediate answer. It should
be on sale at the end of October.

There is a short presentation of this charger, that you may download:

Meanwhile you could join this discussion forum:

Charging batteries from a dynamo is presently a "hot" topic in this
forum!

need a techie answer, please.

last night's charge peaked at 13.64v. today, both bulbs blew...at the moment i have a reading at the battery of 13.33v.

what do i wire in to limit voltage? something simple, i hope?

ps-please stick to the point, some of the good things i see in here are being wasted (as i already have a plan) and should go into an active lighting topic to be of any real help.
