Wouldn't be very practical without designing and building a left side rear derailleur the change gears with.

Not only that, the freewheel is right handed.
I was thinking more of just having a place to put the sprocket and have it fixed

Does that mean you don't plan to have any human drive? There are also hub adaptors one can use to attach a rear left-side sprocket.

No, the thread is wrong, every time you give it the gas it's going to loosen up.

You can use a flip-flop hub to attach a disc brake. The Staton Inc hub has right-hand threads on the right side and left-hand threads on the left side. This allows you to use a left-side freewheel.
