If it's not brass then I have no idea what it really is, but the other that's still there sure does look like brass, it must be though since the one that fell out was soft enough to become part of the piston instead of denting it.

Wonder what would lead to the decision to use brass instead of steel or something. Easier to tool and scrap value maybe.

yeah, seen pins loose and pins pushed in so far they don't grab the ring - luckily, I see those very rarely

Yeah I dont see much of that issue ether turns out that I got the last piece of ring that was wedged in over what was left of the pin out to see that the pin was mushed into the slot and not much left, its hard to get a good pic or I would post it.

That would make sense, steel is way off and probably would (and had, that's how they know to use brass) fall out with the changing Temps of the piston.
