And as I delve, the plot thickens. From before the Husqvarna, we have the Sachs in this Bismarck:

So did Husqvarna use the Sachs, or build it under licence? If the German engine plant ended up in East Germany, then the China Girls etc are possibly badly made descendants.

I had a trawl through and it seems that the Sachs was used by so many people, not just in Germany but everywhere with builders/assemblers of motorcycles, that it would have been the logical choice to copy a known and reliable unit.

There was also a JLO that looked like it as well, but it's harder to find good info as the Sachs swamps everry enquiry.
 
Uno, I bet these China toys won't hold a candle to lasting as long as all of these bikes you've found.
