Morini engine, Stretch frame, Nexus 8speed hub

This is a work in progress. I will post more about it later with more pictures.

07/23/09 The engine is a 49.8CC 3.2HP and it is upgradable to 5.8HP. I only have about 30 miles on it and most of them test runs. It seems as strong or stronger than my HT engine. My speedometer read 44mph when i opened it up recently. This is the same as the HT engine but the Morini isn't broken in yet. The Morini has some vibration at midrange but smooth at high rpm. Some of it may be the clutch and I hope it gets better. It is barely audible when idling compared to the HT. The pipe I have is loud (for me) but I'm working on it. I included a picture of my rear motor mount/jackshaft combination. It also holds the idler for the jackshaft to crank chain.

The rear hub is a Shimano Nexus 8 speed with a roller brake added. The hub is rated for offroad use and has about 400 motorbike miles on it with no problems.

Very nice, professional job, no complications, clean appearance. Congrats on a job well done is that the 3hp or the 5.8hp? How long did it take you to complete, how much heavier is that engine than the standard china engine? Good Luck with it.

It is the 3.2hp engine. It is 8.5Kg almost 19lbs. It took about two weeks of afternoons to install the engine.

Larry,

something i've been trying to establish to no avail, is there any reduction in these engines between the crank and the output sprocket ? and how much ?

thanks,
steve

for reference, my GP460 engine weighs 8#'s but is NO WHERE NEAR the quality nor life span of the Morini.

The reduction ratio is 1:4.21.
Thanks

cool, looks like it'll still take a jackshaft to get it into the 21:1 range.

what's the standard output sprocket tooth count ?

thanks,
steve

how sweet it is
nice motor bike
did you get the motor from one place
then what ever else you needed
here and there ?

an engine that's
been on my mind
for a long time

good luck with that THING

I love my OBAMA M

OBAMA is ruining our great country open your eyes. he is trying to have a government take over of our private industry. Why is he trying to ram this healthcare down our throats? He doesnt want anyone to read how it is going to effect their lives. He says you will be able to keep your private healthcare but the bill will eventually kill the private industry. under the bill insurance companies will not be allowed to issue new policies, what do you tihnk will happen when these people that have insurance now and eventually die or change their jobs..... He lied to us about the bailout, what makes you think he is telling the truth about the health insurance bill??? He is not for healthcare reform he voted against all reform while bush was in office that would have made health insurance more accessible to more people (cheaper).

i-paint Can you detail some of the finer things about this Morini, the power, ease of starting etc. I have heard from some guys that this is really worth the extra bucks for this engine. Did you have much fabrication work to do, two weeks of afternoons sounds like an extensive amount of time. Can anyone get this done or is it you have to be part mechanical genius?
