Newbie MB'r wants to share awesome deal on Tanaka 33cc engines!

Hi Guys,

I have enjoyed reading all of the posts here and lurking for many months, I finally decided to pull the trigger on some GEBE kits and use the little Tanaka 33's. Here is what I lucked up on yesterday! Unbelievable deal! My two are on the way with UPS tracking numbers from Tennessee!

I bought two of them yesterday, Tanaka 33cc engines for $99.00 each shipped! I followed up with the Essex group and confirmed the deal! They got over 100 of them in an "Overstock" deal and are liquidating them. Here is the Amazon Link to the little motors that regularly go for over $300 !

Enjoy!

HCS,
I use a brake lever as my throttle on all my MB's. Fairly simple to use std bicycle parts & cable. Just need to do a little soldering for the throttle tip (I use a gas grill lighter & silver solder from Radio Shack). I grind down a brass spoke nipple with a Dremel & solder it onto the cable end.

Crosshair84,
Let us know how she runs once you get it mounted up.

I haven't even gotten the bike or friction kit, but I'm set as far as engines.:rolleyes:

Not sure what I'm going to do with mine yet?
I got 4 engines & 3 MB's now...
Might have to set-up one of my bikes with dual engines :eek:

I WAS seriously considering doing that as well with my bike build, but then I realized that if I wanted something like that I would just pay my cousin to weld a 10 horse Briggs & Stratton to a BMX bike.

I have my proposed build over in the Friction Drive forum. Let me know if you think it's a good idea. I still need help deciding on the roller size.

How are you guys dealing with the throttle on the $89 motor? Are you using something from the Dax/STaton/GEBE kit or did you just rig up a twist-throttle to it? Should be pretty easy, because most weeders and things use a cable throttle.

I was just gonna order a Staton kit with the throttle cable. The engine is setup for a cable throttle as you can see in my photos. If you want to go supper ghetto you can just use a piece of string or a coat hangar.:geek:

When I bought last week, it said only 7 left...

Just checked and NOW it has 17 left!

Possible he got another load in??? This guy has got a serious connection!!!!

Again, my bet is that these were bought as unclaimed freight or from a bankrupt manufacturer. Here is their website: http://essextechnologygroup.com/ Certainly looks to me like an "Unclaimed Freight" type business. Lots of cool stuff to find at those type of places.

The first batch were probably found first and listed for sale. Then they went back to go through more stuff and found the second batch of engines elsewhere in the pile and added them to the listing, which was around the time they dropped the price from $99 to $89, they wanted to sell them as fast as possible given that it is getting toward the end of summer. Had it been spring they would have probably tried to get more for them. Probably not gonna be any more once these are gone.

Too bad they didn't find a bunch of TC-4700's and list them for $89. I'd have maxed out my credit card and made a killing selling them to you guys.:devilish: (Don't pretend that you wouldn't have done the same thing.)

Nice setup there 1sensitiveman. Considered the GEBE, but I don't trust the plastic ring with the weather we have here in North Dakota.

Thanks for the tip, Lowracer. I just ordered an extra brass cable stop w/ screw when I ordered the Dax kit. I figured I could make it work on the lever end if it would impede operation of the motor throttle arm. But your idea sounds good too.

Hi Guys,

Just a quick observation on the throttle cable received from GEBE, its about as cheap a unit as I have ever seen , it does not even come with a barrel end for the cable sleeve! This is what was in the box posing as a "Throttle Cable";

definitely not a "Quality" piece of plastic work....

I "Upgraded" mine last night with one of these MB levers from "Diamondback";

It has a spring loaded return built in the lever housing, this, along with the throttle return spring built into the carb on the Tanaka really improves the tactile "Feel" of the throttle.

IMHO when you don't mind paying for the "Best", a little more attention to detail in regards to this assembly would be a welcome change. Around five bucks @ ****s Sporting Goods.

~sigh~ If it only were the 40cc, lol.

I suppose it depends on what you want to do The power curve of the 32cc seems much better suited for a motorized bike with no gears since it peaks in power and torque at higher RPM's while the 40cc peaks in the midrange, leaving the top end close to the 32cc. I suppose it depends on where you want your power to be at, midrange for acceleration or top end for speed, though this is coming from someone who has more experience with moped's.

If you put a CVT on the 40cc that was tuned for the engines midrange power you could do quite a bit with it.

Wait a minute here, Tananka lists the PF-4000 as 1.8 max HP in their pdf spec sheet, which is where I was looking at the power curve, but lists it as 2.2 max HP on the website? Looks like someone at Tanaka needs to update something. Disregard last post.:rolleyes:

Sensitive man, can I have the GEBE throttle cable and lever? That is the type I need for my road bike build! mohdoggies a7 yahoo.com or PM here. Thanks!

I have had levers like that BMX lever shown, with the return spring like that. I thought they looked "cheap" compared to Avid or Shimano, but they did the job well and the return spring made for a nice lever feel. Looks like agood throttle lever.

I thought about using one of Dax lockiing clutch levers as a throttle, but of course it's only Left Handed, and I don't know if the button assembly can be flipped. That would be a fun throttle, just rig it for 7/8 of top speed with the button or the favorite cruise speed.

Heck yeah! Mine got here 5 minutes ago. It is featherweight and looks sharp. I like the silver/unpainted clutch housing. I pulled it slowly a couple times and looked it over. Felt fine, looked spotless. :bowdown:

Got my first one today, ordered two more since at this price you'd be crazy not to. These are definitely engines intended for a manufacturer. Came in a plain cardboard box packed in brown paper with no paperwork other than the :poop:CARB:poop: label. Clearly brand new
