I know this topic has been talked about before. Oil leak's from the compression release cam.
I would like to share my opinion on the best O ring fix.
My first O ring fix used a single O ring. (see first picture) It required removing the compression release cam from the cover and putting a slight bevel on the bottom of the cam so the O ring would have a groove to sit and seal. But a small drip of oil still came out and I was not happy. ( No one person came up with the idea to use an O ring. Many thought of it around the same time. I know I did.)
I knew I needed a better way to make the O ring seal.
I would like to Thank Paula for sharing with us her design idea. Thank You Paula
Paula used an O ring in the boar for the compression release cam (shaft)
She then drilled and tapped the compression release cam( shaft ) to accept a screw, or a stud and a nut.
This was a GREAT IDEA. Paula's design insures the O ring has a nice compressed fit. Make's it easy to service and also holds the compression release lever on tight.
I decided to use a stud with thread lock tight. Now there's no chance of messing up the threads in the shaft.
That's the hardest part, to drill and tap the shaft.
I also decided to use two O rings one on the inside and one on the outside of the cover. If any oil got by the 1st O ring the 2nd O ring was sure to stop it.
Drilling two small shallow pockets for the O rings was easy. ( make sure their the correct depth and DIA. to compress the O rings to get a good seal )
Here's some pictures of how I installed the two O rings. ( never dripped oil again )
