Passing IN Bike Lane - Slowdown Please !!!

Depending on the traffic on the road, I like to swing as far to the left as possible and sometimes (if there are no cars) I'll just go out into the road to make sure I'll miss them. You can't go wrong if you can do that. However, sometimes I get a bad feeling about somebody and I'll just slow down. Better safe than sorry (sorry about the cliche ).

Hey rjwenzel
you have received the un-official MB driving award for the day
from -- Mountainman and others who wish to stay anonymous..

Swing as far to the left as possible - into traffic lane - if no traffic
yes - as most of us know - we have had to do this many times
after looking for cars first - don't wish to be hood ornament !!!

sometimes when there seems to be no way out
either coming too close to ones in bike lane or cars in roadway --
I just pull to the curb - stop - MB time out.

Then it all just passes by and I am back on the road
remembering that -- I am in no hurry !!!

When I see a car in my side view mirror I wave them on. They appreciate that for that shows them I'm not gonna dart in front of them as they pass.

Pretty awful video, isn't it? How could he have been so stupid? But I guess I know the answer; even though he knew that car was there he forgot about it after just a moment because he was distracted with, perhaps, something else not related to traffic at all.

It's something that could happen to any of us. Though it's less likely with riders who take what they are doing seriously.

But going back to passing bikes, peds, etc., the rule of thumb is simple enough; the more crowded the situation the more slowly you go. And if that means dropping down to 0 mph, do it with a smile. Don't forget that one of the reasons we're doing this is to get out of that horrible, infuriating automobile traffic.

So, to paraphrase Dax, "enjoy the ride. even when you have to stop."

That guy didn't even come close to looking out for cars! I guess that car was going way too fast too though...

that looks to be true Tom

us being riders - we would have taken notice
that the rider seemed to also be in the wrong part of the lane
wondering what the heck he's up to
would have proceeded with MUCH CAUTION

but - in many cases those cars don't seem to care a whole lot
it's not their rear end on the line

one thing for sure
that poor guy learned a lesson THE HARD WAY --- much pain !!!
