Pvc ?

Has anyone ever tried to make a fuel tank out of PVC pipe?
I need a fuel tank for a new (old looking) bike and just don't feel like building a steel one. This tank will be covered anyway.
I glued two fittings together and did a 3 day soak test in gas. I didn't see any problems with that but wonder about long term affects.
