Simple question, is a resistor wire (or boot or plug) needed? Don't care about radio noise. Stock cdi for now.

Simple question perhaps but when I read up on this topic I didn't find any consensus on the forum! I wouldn't know which is right, but from reading the debate I chose to believe that a resistor (and only one) is necessary to ensure long life if the CDI.
I'm using copper wire with an NGK non-resistor boot and NGK resistor plug.

I have read some old posts about non resistor killing cdi's but not any new posts. My old, dead cdi didn't have a resistor wire or boot. It died from corrosion on the screw that the wire goes on however. I need to add a longer wire to the cdi or I wouldn't bother with it. Guess a resistor boot wouldn't hurt.

I've had bikes for repair with high resistance and they didn't work - not sure how much is too much for the weak sparks we get, but I avoid any resistance at all.
