4hp briggs cruiser project

07/09/18 update:

More progress! I was finally able to replace the tube in the back wheel.

I managed to get a v brake working in the front. I would like to change to a drum or disk brake in the near future, but this'll do for now.

The foot peg was installed and works well. I think it looks okay.

All that's left is the chain which is coming in a few days and reinforcing the seat. Im hoping for a test drive and debug early next week.

For sure! always changes ...........Curt
That's the fun of it. People wonder why I bother with this hobby. I love tinkering to figure out a problem on my machines. By the way, do you still have any pictures of your bikes?

That's what I love about it. I'm always working on my bike or fixing it. People think my bike is an absolute pile of crap ( it kinda is ) because I'm always fixing or tinkering with it, they just don't get it. Anyways, about your pulley, it should be bigger I think. I have a similar bike but it has an 8hp tecumseh with the governor removed, and its a 2 speed. 1st gear is a 2.35 inch pulley to 8 inch, and 10 tooth sprocket to 36 tooth, comfortable top speed of 25 (will do 35+ but motor on edge of blowing up). 2nd gear is a 2.35 inch pulley to 5 inch and 10 tooth sprocket to 36 tooth, with top speed of 50. The big 8hp will barely start me off in second gear. Your pulleys look pretty small and close in size geared for very high speed. Try using this gear ratio calculation utility found on this thread https://motoredbikes.com/threads/gear-calculation-utility.20374/ , I found it very useful for my build. Hope this makes sense and best of luck for your first ride!

RocketJ,
Did you take any 90s out of your exhaust? I got my SS flex tube clamped to the manifold after work today.

8/21/18 update:

Progress on the bike has been slow. I bought a chain that seems to fit, but i still need to make or buy a chain tensioner. I wish i went with a solid belt drive at this point.

As a side project, one of my neighbors was throwing out this beautiful toro 622 6hp snowblower. When asked what was wrong with it he said it starts up fine, but the auger doesn't turn. Not one to turn down a chance at a free machine, i loaded into my wagon and brought it home. I figured if it beyond repair at least i would get a working 6hp engine and some nice scrap out of it.

Turns out all i needed was a measly belt. I just scored a $500+ snowblower for only 20 bucks!
