I back Dave 100%, know what a pain moderation can be, and could care less about e-mailing and apologizing to anybody who decides to leave.

Who cares if you go to another forum?? It's a free country. and this place has very few rules, and the rules are based on the history of the forum.

In other words, these are the few rules that works best.

Rules are no fun, but with as many members as MBc has, we need to establish some member guidelines to avoid complete chaos.

1. Listen to the moderators. They are the rule enforcers and their judgment is final. Try to be respectful to them as they have a difficult position.
2. Be respectful to others. Do not use insults - play nice with other members.
3. Maintain a "family friendly" environment. No curse words or adult language. Trying to circumvent the word censor with symbols and misspellings is prohibited.

4. Search before posting a question. If you have a question, chances are that it was already asked and answered. Use the search feature to avoid repeating the same question.
5. Post in the correct forum. Help keep our community organized by posting in the appropriate category. For example, if you have a specific technical question, post in the Garage instead of the General Discussion.
6. Use punctuation and correct grammar. It is really difficult to read someone's block of text with no periods, commas, etc.
7. Use IMG tags appropriately. Don't overuse IMG tags (we have people on dial-up) and never use IMG tags on a picture that is wider than 800px or larger than 1mb.

8. No spamming! If you are a vendor, you must follow the Vendor Rules. Failure to read the vendor rules will result in an immediate ban!

9. No Politics! Period. No religion either!

Failure to comply with these rules will result in infractions, which will eventually lead to temporary or permanent banning.

Simply abide by these guidelines and your experience at MBc will be favorable.

Right on.......

I ain't promising to go anywhere......and there are a LOT of rules here
Here are some vendor rules i kinda like :devilish:

first off i would like to welcome you to the site. your knowledge and help will always be appreciated. here are a few simple rules and comments.

1. respect other dealers. do not bad mouth another dealer that is a bad way to do business and bad dealers will ruin their own reputation without your help. talking bad or negative comments about another dealer will not be tolerated.

2. you are more then welcome to put links to your site and tell us about what you do however if that is the only reason you are here we do not want you. share your knowledge and help others and i have no problem with self promotion. a link from your site to here would be really appreciated. also you cannot post links till you have 3 posts. that is for everyone dealers and members to help keep spammers from posting links.

3. if you would like your title changed to dealer just pm me and i will make the change.

I recently left another well known e-bike forum due to woeful moderation hope it doesn't continue here.

I would like to point this out to the mods-->

7. Use IMG tags appropriately. Don't overuse IMG tags (we have people on dial-up) and never use IMG tags on a picture that is wider than 800px or larger than 1mb.

I have been pulled up and told NOT to use img tags AT ALL as was a mate i asked to join up here YET its in the RULES that the CAN be used.

Make up your minds its one or the other not both. Personally i think its ridiculous in this day and age 99% of people are on broadband connections THEY should be catered for over the minority that may still have dial up.

As to the swearing...etc etc...Again personally think its ridiculous but themz the rules... is there not a setting that can be checked by the individual that edits any profanities? I guarantee a 13 year old would hear far worse at school than on these boards either way.

KiM.

Good ol' "USA is #1 in everything" does not apply to the internet, anybody on the outskirts of a town, where the space between houses starts getting wider, is out of luck on broadband. The telephone companies are next to oil companies in extortion.

I'd say your estimate is off, dialup is still 50% of the market, and as folks tighten the belt in hard times, broadband is a luxury quickly dropped.

And the history of the "img" rule is some folks did not/would not (after continuous pleas by moderators) reduce the size of the pixel count, or did not adjust the width of the image, which stretched all the comments waaaaaaay to the right.

Moderators could NOT enjoy the forum for fixing up so many of the images.

In other words, a thread would be easy to scroll down, until somebody/anybody put a super-wide or non-reduced pixeled picture into the mix.

That forced all the text, above and below, to go wide (take up more than a screen), or the thread to bounce continuously as the picture slowly loaded, unreadable to a dial-upper who was trying to follow the newer text down below.

And a lot of the moderators were/are on dialup, have to read ten times as many threads as casual members, which is difficult when the screen is way too wide or bouncing up and down.

I use an image from a third source in the text now and then, but if it is from my camera, I try to put it in the reduced in size image links below.

That guy from Chicago put his uncle's collection in images yesterday, but he doesn't know that the dialuppers simply skip it, can't spend 10 minutes waiting for the shots to appear. If he had it as img links, we could click on it and comment.

And as to:

What if everyone thought like that?
Would the vendors want to advertise to just the mods?

It appears to the 90% of the MBfolks who AREN'T vendors, who are not buying or selling anything, that long standing sourness amongst THEM constantly oozes into various threads.

Most folks who join already have an engine, and those that don't shouldn't be suddenly exposed to some grudge/shouting match that most of us don't know anything about OR care anything about.

Building bikes is no money-maker, it's a hobby, and giving free advise to folks, to try and save them money or hassles is the MAIN reason for the forum.

I advertise in the weekly shoppers guide newspaper, the only time I sent steel blanks to somebody, I lost $15 in the dealio, and didn't even get a thank you note, much less recover the $7 in postage.

And the only time I tried to buy something from here, over a year ago for a tool, from a so called upstanding vendor, I sent $12 cash and a SASE, and never received it.

Now I simply ignore his threads and carry on. I could have pestered every one of his threads, "WHERES MY 4 WAY BIKE WRENCH??" but that is just the kind of pettiness that makes "vending in an open forum format" an iffy proposition.

Gripes about vendors should be in THEIR websites and e-mails, MB.com shouldn't have to worry about who ripped who off, or who won't send this to whereever.

When it bleeds into all the various threads and won't stay confined to the vending area, it causes all this irrelevent to bikes/engines blathering.

And as to the autocensored words and the tender ears of our yoots, Tom owns the site, he made that an "auto" feature, nobody ever asked "why?", they simply cooperated, for the most part.

It's a double edged benefit, so the yoots can't just log on and subject our members to THEIR rants. You have to know how the porn-spammers constantly pummel all the internet sites, at least this one kept them at a distance.

That pornsters and regular folks share some of the same verbs and nouns is just an autocensor fact, don't take it personally.

Dave's attempt at comedy regarding Tom's stolen bike can't be taken out of context as hypocrisy, anybody who has had a bike stolen has thought the same thing, and hanging them like a horse thief is a long standing MBjoke to express that feeling, when and if you see your pride and joy suddenly bikejacked.

Right on, bamabikeguy!

As srdavo was being crucified in this thread, I was thinking "something doesn't add up here"

I've read who-knows-how-many of his posts and he's a good guy.

Thanks Bama.

I am closing this thread since it is going down the wrong path. Srdavo DIDN'T break the rules. He was not trying to circumvent the sensor in any way. The sensor took care of his words as it should have, and thus he DIDNT BREAK ANY RULES.

Please read the rules more carefully next time you want to try and call someone out.

Additionally, I think that some of you need to give a little more appreciation to the mods work around here. Without rules, this place would spiral out of control fast. We need to apply the rules uniformly to help keep the place in line.

As far as the IMG tag rules go, read the rules again a little more carefully this time.

Rule #7---re; IMG tags, Amended on 04/27/2009
Edit/Delete Message

We clearly stated that the rule had changed. Yes, since day 1, we said no IMG tags, but we recently voted to overturn the rule.

Again, please show a little more appreciation to the mods. I implemented the infraction system as a way to keep track of the trouble-makers, and help apply the forum rules more uniformly.

Are we in kindergarten again?

Obviously you are acting like you are. Calling me to complain about the vendor rule changes, calling me to complain about getting infraction points. Act like an adult and you will be treated like one.

Last time I checked, all citizens MUST FOLLOW A SET OF RULES. If you break the rules, YOU GET PUNISHED.

If drivers break the laws, THEY GET POINTS ON THEIR LICENSE.

Laws and rules are a necessity of any functioning organization, especially of this size. If we just had a group of 5-10 guys, it wouldn't be a problem. But since we have thousands, we must become a bit more structured.
