Vendor Recommendations

Thanks for the reply. The document Miss Wang sent me states 47x40 bore & stroke which calculates to slightly over 69cc. She said it is the most popular. I can buy 30 units for $64 each and a total shipping charge of $75 (by boat) but I have to clear customs at the port of Savannah here in Georgia. She gave me contact info of a company in California that can give me an idea of what it costs to get them through customs.

I took a look at BicycleMotorWorks and that looks like a great place to buy a kit. I actually ordered a silver Zeda off eBay yesterday and I just took a look and what do you know, the vendor is Bicycle Motor Works, but I paid more than if I had ordered directly from their web site. I'll know next time.

I made some progress with my beef with gasbike.net. PayPal settled the complaint I filed against gasbike by crediting me the $40 gasbike scammed me out of so that is good. Gasbike no longer responds to my email or returns my calls. I think I have that bike sold for $300. I really like the way it runs, just a lot of vibration.

The Flying Horse engine I have on the Mongoose Mack with the shift kit has like zero vibration but it doesn't get the rpms I want. It pulls OK up until a certain rpm then flattens out with that 2-cycle stutter. It is supposed to be EPA approved so maybe the carb is too lean? I have 25*1 synthetic in the tank now. After break-in it calls for 100*1 but I'm afraid to go that lean on oil. Thanks again for the response.
Sounds about right, though the shipping fee by boat seams off they qouted me $188 for shipping to my local sea port. The differance between ordering 30 kits or more is only $1 a kit,I was qouted $63 for 60 kit's.Then you guys have a 25% tarrif on top of the duty/taxes no?

The difference, I was told, is $370 shipping for 10 kits arriving in 14 days or $75 shipping for 30 kits that will arrive in a month or longer. The duty/taxes is an unknown at this time and could be the deal breaker. I have a business but always looking for something to add to it and it is a big plus if it is something I like doing, even though I won't make a lot of money at it.

I didn't know they would sell less than 30 units. I'd expect $20-30 tariff (VAT) per unit. still a deal. take $40 off retail kit price and you're very close to what the US vendors on fleabay are buying them for. you almost can't win unless you can do 30+ units. tell em you don't want full kits; complete engine only and maybe that'd be a deal you could jump on. guess they'd be ~$45/unit like that and if Zeda would do 10 motors you'll fall under import taxing and only pay regular shipping.
I do a lot of importing of jade and jewelry from China and Thailand (how I met my sweetie) and make sure my orders are only 200-300 bcs the import ceiling used to be only $400, now I guess they raised it to 800+ before they really eyeball what is coming in

The 10 silver engine kit quote Miss Wang sent is $1,030 to my door, or $103 each. That is with a UPS shipping charge of $370 and a 14 day delivery. I don't know what black engines sell for.

You say I won't have to pay any duty or tax if I order that way? That may be the way to go for building bikes to sell locally. Those are eBay prices.

I've attached the brochure and the 10 kit quote she sent me.

@ $ 1k, you'll pay the duty but you won't know (exactly) what it is until customs tells you and won't release the shipment until you do. you'll get a notification in the mail with info and instructions.
but if you need all the kit parts, that's your only option than pay the guy who already did what you're doing.
you can get good deals on the engines online if you ask "hey can I get a break on 5?" then just buy bulk kit parts from China. $65 per 66cc engine alone off fleabay. seen $62 once, sold out fast. im watching a guy sells 48cc's for only $59.
you can get the individual parts of kit for pennies on Alibaba. 3 weeks to get em.
make a list what need to install. then buy 10 this. 10 that, etc. no tariff bcs your total order is like $350, shipped. I see these deals on Alibaba, 20sets grips $19. 44T sprockets $2 each moq 20.
China loves to move their stuff. they make too many of everything lol

I'm waiting for response from Jessica but I'm under the impression that the 10 kits would arrive at my address in 14 days with no additional duty or tax and no hold up in customs, but the UPS shipping charge is $370.

If I ordered 30 kits the shipment would arrive on a slow boat from China and I would have to drive to Savannah and clear customs, but shipping would be only $75. Jessica recommended Lucky Consol inc. in California to quote me what it would cost to clear customs. I contacted Lucky and the agent needs to know if the shipment is "EXW or FOB" in order to quote me a price so I'm waiting on Jessica's reply on that issue also.

Thanks for posting prices. Now to decided if I want the money tied up for shipping time.

Have you got in touch with CDH? Curious what their pricing is.

I found CDH on Alibaba and inquired about pricing, haven't heard back yet. Their advertised prices look about the same but their kits appear to be as good or better than Zeda. CDH is new to me and I like the 4 bolt chain tensioners. The two kits I've ordered since I've started the hobby didn't show 4 bolt tensioners in the kit illustrations but both kits came with 4 bolt tensioners so perhaps it is getting more common.

FOB is what you usually go with. that means the price all said n done with Freight On Board; you've paid and they deliver to the boat and are not liable after that point what happens. usually that is for items on pallet. if UPS is taking up the shipping once it's here, it's weight they r charging for and it'll come to wherever you want, not just to a terminal. UPS is very secure way to handle a shipment

Thanks. These engines when running rich generally clean up and run good under a load like hills or acceleration but once they are cruising with light load they 4 stroke. I'm familiar with the runtong carbs. They usually run richer than the stock NT. so I would suggest a #68 and a #66. I'm at 5400 ft. and sometimes have to go as low as a 64 to get them to act right. You can find better deals on Ebay for the jets, but I get mine from SickBikeParts because they sell real Dellorto jets so their's no guessing on the accuracy. Most of the Runtongs use 5mm jets, but I have seen some of the dellorto clones with a 6mm jet so you might want to check it out before ordering. If the thread size on the jet is the same diameter as the stock NT carbs. then it's 5mm. I also use the SBP shift kit ran to a NuVinci hub. SBP is a great company to deal with.

FYI, looks like the jet is 5mm. I measured 0.193" across the threads and ordered a 68 and 66 from SBP.

CDH is good people at all levels I'm seeing. tho I've only bought from them thru fleabay, they are easy to talk to directly thru alibaba
