AnytimeNice, thank you very much !
My 53cc hs-144f would climb any grade hill no issue at a 20:1 reduction and had a top speed of 35 mph on 26" wheels. I now have a shifter kit on it and it does 47 mph in its current configuration. I did have it geared to 53 mph with different ratios, but it was a tad too slow coming out of corners.
I've off roaded in hilly regions and brought it to a local skate park a few dozen times. This engine may be chinese, but chinese quality has gotten much better over the last 30 years.
Lewie, what in the world made you count the spokes on his rim? OCD maybe? Come to think of it I don't know how many spokes my wheels have. See what you've started, now I feel a need to count them!Plamb, Note that your bike's rear wheel is laced with 32 spokes. Most motorized bikes would be better served by a wheel with 36 spokes. Your choice, but I think a higher quality wheel would be a better investment.
And actually an MTB made of CroMoly steel frame tubing, built in the late 1980's, early 1990's would be a sturdier bike and have more frame clearance for the engine. Once again, your choice.
The trick is finding one of these mythical bikes that's in good useable shape. An older MTB would be spec'd with 36 spoke wheels and would have better parts.
