Chain Broke, Any Advice?

When I first built my bike, my chain kept breaking because the sprocket wasn't flat, so it was turning crooked. That needed to be hammered flat.

Also there were burrs that needed to be filed off in the center hole so it fit on the adapter correctly.

Proper chain tension is important too. Too loose or too tight and it'll break.
i think this was the main factor, seeing as the chain managed to somehow get off the rear sprocket, ive made sure to check my chain tension before every ride now

I'm learning that it is very important to keep the chain tensioner near
the rear sprocket, so it guides the chain accurately on to the sprocket.
Everything has to be perfectly aligned. I've finally got my chain to
run with minor clicking and I'm looking forward to changing to
the #41 chain I'll get this week. I've looked at every vid on the net
and adjusted the chain to death. I believe the front drive sprocket
is slightly out of spec. and the 41 chain will be more foregiving and
should operate smoother.

Or do as i did...shorten the chain to exact fit and totally eliminate the tensioner altogether...lol...DAMIEN

Shortening the chain to work without a tenioner is
not possible on most bikes, and it makes it more
difficult to remove the chain if necessary.

Really ???...Ive done it on three of my own as well as a few others that i helped other people build...No problems, and no problems removing chains either...Seems they have this little thing called a master link that comes right off...lol...DAMIEN

If your chain is too tight, it's a little more difficult to
remove the master link. Depends how tight the
chain is. But it's just very difficult without a
tensioner to tighten the chain because the
motor on a 4 stroke is not easily moved on
its mount and the rear wheel may not be
moveable, front and back like on my
bike. Tightening the chain by moving the
motor on the mount is really not an option.
A tensioner makes more sense and I like how
it effectively guides the chain on the rear sprocket.

There's one other issue in moving the 4 stroke engine
on its mount, and that is the position is determined
100% by the clearance of the muffler with the down tube. I
barely got the muffler to clear the down tube, and I had
to remove the front fender to accomplish it, so the
position is really not adjustable. I am purchasing a
4 stroke side exhaust to resolve this problem and
make the bike look better.

It might have escaped your notice here Mike, but we are referring to only 2 strokes in this particular thread, since it is, after all in the...

2-Stroke Engines

The 2-Stroke motorized bicycle engine kit forum. Why won't your 2-stroke motorized bike engine start? What's the best 66cc & 80cc engine kit for your bike?
...2-stroke section of the forums...lol...4-strokes may well be another story all together regarding chains, alignment, motor positioning for chain and alignment, etc., but we are not talking 4-strokes at this particular time in this particular thread...lol...We want to be helping the Original Poster who happens to have a 2 stroke and having a chain/alignment problem with his 2-stroke system...DAMIEN

I have shortened my chain to remove my tensioner since tensioners are a hazard when riding and for the chain tension I use a turnbuckle to move the engine to apply tension also helps with the engine mount flex
