My 2 cents. Pursue lithium iron. Forget lead and other chemistry. If the bike is to be 20mph max, locate the batteries centrally in the frame. If you must locate the batteries on the back, do not put them high on top of a rack. It makes the bike near impossible to park in a bike rack because of the stationary CG. It also makes it a beast to handle at stop lights.
