i was wondering anyway because without being able to run the motor at a certain amount of revs (specified for compression test in service manual at 1200rpm)

Put a tach on it and pull it over you would be surprised how fast you spin it with the pull start.Leak down test is still a better test. Park the piston at TDC and test.

What a handy gadget, Bob, cheers.
Will make one so i can keep on checking on how the engine wears as time goes on, or on the next mark2's gx35 cause this engine will unfortunatly be retired sooner or later before i can see how long it lasts.
Would have been good to have done that from the beginning when the engine was new so i would have something to compare it to as i guess that a certain amount of pressure loss would have been seen on the meter even on a new engine. You wouln't by any chance have done that?

No I only have checked used engines. I'll have to check a new one next time I get one for modification.
