There is a "4 stroke" type engine that combusts every 2 strokes of the crank. It's called the D-cycle piston engine

If this tech is refined it might be the future of ice.

I was thinking of such an engine if you could get the 2 cycle fire sequence with oil bath and such. I was thinking intake valve on the top and the classic side exhaust port but it would burn/leak too much oil and likely to catch rings.

The top of the piston disconnects and then gets pushed down that's interesting but it might cause hammering or damage not sure unless there is an oil cushion.

That's going to be rpm limited by the speed of the piston head. That's a fair bit of mass to be accelerated quickly on its exhaust/intake stroke. I'd also worry about deposit buildup between the piston halves. Maybe they could add another oil ring to the piston base to control that, but the acceleration of the head is going to be harder to overcome.
