So my CDI recently broke and I confirmed it with a multimeter. I was just wondering though what are some reasons these CDIs can break? I've only ever ridden in the rain twice and there is no visible damage anywhere. I would just like to know so I can take care of my new one.

When ordering a new CDI, order 2 so ya got a spare

It's much the same as other electrical components. The blinker switch in a car can go out from age or burn out from use, same with a cdi. It could also break because of vibration, this happens quite often with fourwheelers due to a connection inside busting.
