I work with ceramic. It's some pretty hard stuff. Harder than steel practically. In fact if you push steel across it it will leave a gray streak where the metal rubs off does chip though so if any decent size piece of metal got in the bearing it could wreck it. Pretty heat resistant though. NACHI 6202's are pretty good quality made in Japan. I got 4 of them for like $26. They aren't ceramic though.
