Crashes MB vs LARGE Dog

In case you think I'm being orniery, here is an Administrator suggesting an irritant protection device at post #10. http://www.motoredbikes.com/showpost.php?p=265259&postcount=10

I hope the guy from the thread start that got dumped over by a dog, is ok, and the dog is contained safely, and both parties (rider and dog owner) are reconciled. Best wishes.

Cute little dog (seriously) runs into bicyclist, seriously injuring him.

This is a widespread problem. Where I live, its usually large and powerful dogs that deliberately confront bicyclists.

Last time I rode mine, a bulldog, usually friendly, bit the ENGINE on my bike. Luckily, he was satisfied with the taste I suppose, and has not come back for seconds. Or dessert!

Did you read my last Post? You're not nice.
"Feel free to PM so I don't derail the thread.

Is bear spray a real product?

Some people live in semi-free states and have the right to self defense from animal attack by means of firearms, mace or irritants, or other devices.
I was enjoying the thread, and requested interested parties to continue discussion by PM, before you made judgmental inferences to a "bunch of people riding around turning family pets into roadkill."

Thanks for your consideration.

I hate to tell you, but your three posts about handguns had already derailed the thread.
Thanks for your consideration.

Ok, thanks. Goodnight. Carry on then, and mind the bushes and low fences. Good luck all, whether credit card touring or loaded for bear.

Sorry, hard to type.
Sunny Wed afternoon
22 MPH
large dog runs in front of me, no time to react
right upper arm broken
left shoulder dislocated
HELMET cracked.

moral of story? No HELMET, no Zev0 :helmet:

Is the dog ok?

Every time a dog has chased me when I stop the fun is over and they stop. They are usually in it for the chase. Takes the wind outa them when you do it...PS show no fear or agression.

Wow, SimpleSimon, I wasn't expecting someone to actually do what I've wanted to do to dogs chasing me on the road. The last time it happened, I was on this country road and the dog gave me a good scare, although he couldn't catch me (thanks to my powerful sprint!). At that moment, I thought about coming back with a gun. There is no excuse for a dog to attack a person on a public road.

Be smarter than the dog. Going back after the dog opens up a big can of worms. I can empathize with you though.

If the route is one in which you must travel to get to your home, place of business, or necessities, you might find more legal power to use force against the dog and not face an onslaught of gun-haters, overdramatic animal groups, the dogs owner, and criminal charges. Consult a lawyer to see if a warning shot is a good or bad idea if confronted with the dog. (It may deter the dog, but it may bring charges of unlawful discharge, negligent discharge, city ordinance violations, claims against your dire need for use of deadly force, or even claims of provoking the animal. Unscrupulous dog owners may even claim the dog was chasing you off the property ! Crazy world, huh?)

If the dog is BITING YOU, or unquestionably trying to, then of course one would have all rights to defend himself (in whatever way qualifies by the law in your state and country, necessary disclaimer).

I agree with using other means to deter the dog if you can, and if possible to report the dog and have the owners interviewed by police to have the dog secured and let good fences make good neighbors.

As a teenager, I was racing a 10 speed and almost home, when I was struck by a dog crossing the road at high velocity. I was young and angry, with a busted bike, and sore shoulder. I went after the dog with a t ball bat, and found it crying under a car. I recognized the dog, even without his teeth, and felt bad for it. It was much different than an attacking dog. It was just a stupid dog that was not kept in the yard. I tried to contact the owners, to no avail, so I reported it as a nuisance animal. I think it was eventually put in a fenced yard.

I'm mean as I have to be, but I don't think I am cruel.
