I recently acquired a microlight motor glider (ALISPORT SILENT CLUB-M) when I bought the aircraft it had a broken engine (new starter motor and ring ) I fitted those and set the timing (180°out!) And the engine started,it ran successfully for a few week but then the problems began,at full throttle it would cut out and have difficulty starting again then complely stopped.
The engine was built by zanzoterra in Italy(MZ35) in the late nineties and originally had an injection system fitted and electronic ignition etc but along the way it was removed and refitted with a tillotson carburettor setup,when I received it I noticed an ECOTRONS ECU that belongs to a injection system was still in there and controlling the ignition as a hall sensor was coming from the flywheel and going into the ecu as was the ignition coil,I'm convinced that with this system and about 8 plugs that belonged to the injection system floating about inside the fuselage this is causing the issue do I would like to replace this with a simple setup the engine is 313 cc and creates 27.5hp at 6300rpm ,what ignition system would be best for this engine and does the CDI unit take care of the timing?,I know this is a motorcycle forum but you guys are the best at giving advice on these sort of things,I have a 12v battery that was powering the retractable pylon and running the power to the ECU the engine also charged the battery.
