Switchblade build or fools errand?

That engine is pretty wide, you may find the "footlong" crank spindle is actually just wide enough The ergnomics of using wide pedal crankss for long rides with the engine off makes my legs hurt just thinking about it.

My ruler says it’s ~11” wide after stripping all the excess fat. I might put some foot pegs above the pedals for the long cruise 😎

Next issue- pedal side change. I think I can make the chain work. This is my mock up for now. Feel free to comment. These are the details that make this “fun”

Just a heads-up for ya on the wide crankset: I had one that actually slipped. Chainring was only pressed on to the shaft, and trying to pedal it resulted in slippage. Added a couple tack welds and problem solved.

im leaning towards the black crankset pictured above. That is if I could get any data about it- the sites that advertise these things all use the same useless text and vague descriptions.

Re: the idler sprockets or pulleys if you prefer. The pictures are not the final thought. My plan is to make a bracket to hold both sprockets- the top sprocket will be mounted in a slot to provide adjustment. Maybe this pic helps

I only mentioned that because you want the top side of the chain to run direct to the pedals. But if it's fixed, it might work out.

You'll want to make that bracket out of good thick material, and brace it. It's going to have a lot of stress on it. I'm thinking the bottom pulley should be mounted on a tube welded to the frame, with a mounting/axle stud that holds the bracket. Not because the bottom will be under tension, but you want to hold the top pulley as tight as possible.
