This thing is cool nuthin but water and soap.

I remember seeing some similar-looking contraption probably 30 years ago for the same purpose.... Wash very small loads of laundry. It was promoted as a convenience if away from home.

My grandmother had some similarly-shaped cylinder made out of wood, about the size of refridgerator beer keg. It was also pivoted at the middle with a handle. She's fill it about three-quarters full of unpasteurized cow's cream. She'd get a series of the little grandkids to turn the crank for a couple of hours. Then she'd pull out a couple pounds of butter and some still-drinkable milk. Little grandkids are so easy to impress!
