Definitely Cool but wouldn't a metal washtub and washboard be even greener? I think both of mine are older than me..

I remember seeing some similar-looking contraption probably 30 years ago for the same purpose.... Wash very small loads of laundry. It was promoted as a convenience if away from home.

My grandmother had some similarly-shaped cylinder made out of wood, about the size of refridgerator beer keg. It was also pivoted at the middle with a handle. She's fill it about three-quarters full of unpasteurized cow's cream. She'd get a series of the little grandkids to turn the crank for a couple of hours. Then she'd pull out a couple pounds of butter and some still-drinkable milk. Little grandkids are so easy to impress!

If you mounted a China Girl motor on the side of that thing it would be a lot more useful.

But then you would have to put it on the porch, and that is a problem for apartment dwellers (the addicts come and steal everything off porches).
