URGENT RESPONSE Needed to Save All MBs in Oz Before June 30

i was just wondering if there has been any news on this new legislation. i thought it was set for the end of last month

I should think safety in getting across a busy intersection would be an issue. Moderate power shouldn't be a sin. They shouldn't be screwing around with motor -assisted transpo anyhow what with the coming world-wide recession coming. I was actually thinking of immigrating to Oz to escape the Obama socialized state. Dunno now. Sounds sorta unstable.

I think Oz is a stable country, though politically it is Left of the American Democrats.

Canada, too. While we have a "Conservative" party, I think it fits squarely within the US Democratic spectrum. Our "Liberals" farther to the Left, and the NDP, our official "socialist" party is quite out to lunch all together.

You're probably safest right where you are, even if it is a tad uncomfortable these days for you.

Does anyone have an update on this new legislation suppose to be coming into effect for austrralia wide??

im from victoria and am thinking about buying a another motoriesed bike, but dont want to spend the big bucks if it will become illegal!!!

I may as well be on the Moon here since I'm in CA, USA.

But I have to ask the question: why would anyone want to ban or make it difficult (expensive) to own a MB during times like these? Gas prices are rising, there is a global recession. Would it not be beneficial for a nation to switch to using extremely efficient personal transportation machines rather than driving their cars? It would reduce that nation's consumption of foreign oil.

This argument could be a great point to bring up when convincing the Australian government.

BTW, in most states in the USA, electric bicycles are limited to 20 mph in the flats with assist. MB's however get something higher....like 30 mph because they are lumping them alongside mopeds.

I can understand the reasons for speed legislation on MB's. At the same time, I want to have the freedom to ride fast if the conditions allow. Just like automobiles--we have a Maximum speed limit in CA of 65 mph. However, it does not stop others from going much faster than that though. So I don't see why they should limit the speed of MB's. I think it's because there is the highway patrol that keeps tabs on automobile speeds.

petrol powered motors under 200W could be permitted. However, for this
to work effectively, a regime of testing and certification would need to be developed and
set in place so that users of these devices can be satisfied that what they are buying meets
legislative requirements. This regime would also be needed by enforcement agencies so
that they too can determine whether a particular device meets the requirements. It is
considered that the cost and logistics of setting up this type of regime (satisfactory to the
judiciary) would far outweigh any benefits in allowing petrol powered motorised scooters
to be used on road and road-related areas..

Untill they do set it up 'Yes officer its 200watts check for your self'
