Using only one cylinder gasket

After opening up my cylinder i broke a gasket. Would it be ok to run on only one until my new one shows?

I have read other threads where poeple have done this without any problems temporarily. Just a little extra carbon blowout

also use a long stript of refrigerator magnet to probe around the bottom end under crank to see if a tiny piece of broken ring may be hiding down there & waiting to tear up a main bearing

Good advice, you don't want a broken ring screwing with you twice ;-}
