Why No Tool Bags?

Hal, here's the one I have hanging on the handlebars of my Whizzer: http://www.bikeworldusa.com/product_info.php/cPath/124_25_112/products_id/628
It works well as a toolbag for carrying a few things, but being leatherette it's not really heavy-duty.
Here's a similar one, but in brown (and it looks like it might be leather): http://www.bikeworldusa.com/product_info.php/cPath/124_25_112/products_id/1566
Here's a heavy-duty leather one: http://www.jcwhitney.com/RAIDER-TOOL-ROLL-AND-BAG/GP_2011875_N_111+10211+600014597_10111.jcw
Attached is a photo of the first bag on the handlebars of "Thumper".

I ordered that bikeworldusa bag for my Whizzer.. can't wait to try it out. I've been looking for a classy way to tote some tools and my registration info around.

HEY CHRIS:

I saw the Worksman wheels on their website.

3 questions:

Is the spoke diameter the same as on the Whizzers? (0.105")

Does the coaster brake have one-piece hub & flanges, or pressed-on flanges?

Who's the manufacturer of the coaster brake? (New Departure, Bendix, or other?)

Thanks...
HAL

Hal, the Spoke diameter on these Worksman wheels is larger. I don't have the diameter, but the spokes are 11 gauge as opposed to 12 gauge on the standard Whizzer wheels. The coaster brake is a Shimano CB-E110, which also has a three-piece shell (but with a difference). Unlike the standard Whizzer hub, the Shimano has a shoulder that the flange would have to ride up and over (far less likely) to slip to the center of the hub (as happened to my first wheel). Also, I believe them to be welded. It seems as though nobody makes a one piece coaster brake housing anymore, and to utilize one means retrofitting an older coaster brake to the wheel.

HEY CHRIS:

I found that 11 gauge spokes are 0.120" in diameter...that's pretty husky!

Whizzer's 12 gauge spokes are 0.105".

Those 11 gauge spokes have 14 percent greater diameter and 30.6 percent more cross-sectional area than the Whizzer's!

Hi Hal,

Careful..............

The Whizzer clips on the belt sheave will need to be opened slightly or they will cut a groove in the spoke and create a weak area. It is time consuming, but the grooves can be modified to fit nicely on the larger .120 spokes.

PS. Many of the vintage Whizzer used the 120 spokes [my 1950 Pacemaker, and my 1950 Sportsman]

Let me know when you get closer to your project and I will make up a list of parts you will need to change the clutch system over.

Have fun,
