Will a pull starter ruin my magneto?

I'm planning on attaching a pull starter to my 80cc engine, many people have told me that it will ruin my crankshaft/magneto and ill have to replace it or get a new engine all together.

Anyone that has been in this hobby for a while, and anyone that has put a pull starter on their engine, do you recommend it?

From what I have read the pull starter stripps the crankshaft threads. Replaing the crank is alot of work if you are trying to get it fixed and ride the next day. I personally wouldn't do it.

My bt80 has a pull start, but that is designed to have one. The pull chord however broke and I haven't used it since.

Yeah, it's really only an option if you are unable pedal start for some reason.

They take work to get working correctly.

Skip the pull start. Get a good center stand to replace the normal kick stand so you can get the rear wheel off the ground and you can pedal start it while stationary just like a kick start.

If your bike is in good tune, you don't even need to pedal. Just run along and jump on, pop the clutch and ride away.
