So how does it work? When you pull the brake lever does it let the tab go out turning on the brake light or?

Yes the sw is wired normally closed and the and held open by the screw on the brake handle. When the brake lever is squeezed the switch lever is released and the n/c completes the circuit.

Pit bikes and such come with brake levers that have a built in switch. I use one of them on my bike. 6 volt, 12 volt, It dont matter cause all yer doing is completing a circut.
