I've owned a number of European cars with Bosch distributors, and nearly all of them, ( except for the SAAB 2 stroke Shrike and MontyCarlo 850cc race engines.) had both a mechanical and vacuum advance. Actually the vacuum diaphragm, depending on the model, was either a vacuum retard that reduced vacuum for emissions, or an advance for better running under part throttle moderate vacuum cruise conditions. One of the better made points and condenser ignition systems.
In keeping with this thread I've also done a mild magneto key mod to slightly retard the ignition. And I also notice that my 48cc engine is a little flat in it's power below about 3000 rpm. but runs great at 20 to 25 mph.
