here's how i modified it to work.

a lot of people say that it's better to have the tensioner on the bottom of the chain, but i've found that it works the same weather it's mounted on the top or the bottom, front or back. as long as it puts constant tension on the chain, it will work.

there's a similar one on e-bay but it's a little more expensive and it has a plastic cog.

I made the one for my o.c.c. chopper out of a peice of delrin plastic. all it is, is a wedge that the chain slides across, which puts constant tension on it. I took this idea from dirtbikes because some of them use a delrin type slider on the swingarm to keep the chain from rubbing of it gets too loose. I drilled a hole in the center of it and filled it with grease, so it automatically adds grease to the chain as it wears down. plus, i have it hidden on the inside of the frame.
It's easy to make a tensioner, you just have to figure out what will fit your bike best, and what will be the easiest for you to work with.
it's been on my bike for 2 years now and it has very little wear.
