Engine starts after 3 tries everytime (CNS carb)

Literally 3 tries to get it going each time and then it runs fine. Does anyone know what could cause this? I'm assuming not enough gas/air? I have a CNS carb without the remote choke hooked up (no choke), but I've read that at my altitude I shouldn't need the choke to start? I also have a short/straight intake for the CNS from Pirate. It was doing this before I changed intakes though.

Try using your choke everytime iv'e seen them start without a choke but mine never have

Next time you are done with a ride and shut off your engine, try starting it twice so that the following ride, it will start on the first attempt ;-)

Seriously, several things could be causing your issue either separately or together.
    a. choke setting...too much or too little. none of my engine start instantly with full choke but there is a sweet spot on the choke on each of my engines for an isntant start.
    b. dry fuel bowl....do you use the tickle button to prime your fuel bowl?
    c. Throttle setting (w/ just the right choke setting). several of mine start with no throttle, others need a little and even others need full throttle to get a cold engine started.
    d. Get rid of chinese spark plug.
    e. ensure plug is gapped correctly.
    f. don't use the white wire for anything...all mine are cut at the magneto

To me, it sounds like you are priming your carb's fuel bowl on those first two start attempts.

Thanks guys. I kind of figured that I'm going to need a choke to start consistently, but reading threads where it says "there's no need for a choke unless you're in high altitude has thrown me off some. One memeber removed the remote choke on his CNS because he "doesn't use it". I'll reinstall the choke.

    Sklyiner70cc, I like your first suggestion ;)

    A) Don't have a choke...will replace cable for handle bar "remote" choke
    B) There's no tickle button on the CNS
    C) Yeah...it needs throttle as well as 3 tries
    D) done
    E) It is
    F) I'm not

Thanks and I'm off to get some more cable for the choke.

Sorry, missed the part about it being a CNS carb. Good luck w/ your ride.

The 31cc engine on my go cart does this, but 2 tries; warmed up or not. But I prime it every time, cause if it leans out, it revs to the point that I have to hit the kill switch.(motors messed up)
