Hi everyone,
I'm joining the forum to look up more information about motorized bikes and get advice on them as I go through the building process.

Here are important questions to consider when building for yourself or others:

1) What is the predominant riding terrain?
2) What type of physique does the primary rider have?
3) What will the rider's local laws allow and require them to have?
(Lookup and personally read these laws.)
4) What kind of bike is being motorized?
5) What is the bike to be used for?
6) How much of a budget is to be used for the build?

Seek the answers to these questions in order to get the most out of the bike you're building. We're here to help with any questions you may have. Good luck with your build.

Regarding California's motorized bike laws ( I live in San Francisco with my HS 49cc + Statton friction drive road bike) I believe the max speed is 20 mph, required helmet, still be able to pedal unassisted, and follow the CARB emission standards.

Hmmmm............Useful info from MBikeRider and really useful questions from LRJerry. Nice job, guys.

If you were to come back, playsbass, with answers to, say, about half of those questions you'd find a good deal of suggestions about bike, drive-train and so on.

And you might find that you've narrowed the search somewhat in quite a short time.

In any case, we're glad you joined up.
