I’m building a 5.5 hp bike. I was using a bike hub as a jackshaft but I have switched to some proper pillow block bearings. Is it okay to have both bearings on one side of the sprockets. I will attach a photo. The bike worked really well but it shredded the bearings after a few miles. I have lowered the gear ratio for more speed because the bike had too much torque. The second bearing is just clamped in place at the moment

Okay, is there a way to make the cranks wider so the pedal doesn’t hit the bearing

im not sure, the crank has a separate left side crank arm and the sprockets look to be attached to the right crank arm

I have this on my bike, it's not the best, but it works. I confined any for a multi speed
