The plug's gap is set just where it should be - I just checked it when I pulled the head and cylinder earlier today. I installed my new piston head, which has a slightly higher hole just the perfect height to match the cylinder. So I am able to ditch the extra gaskets. also the bottom cylinder gasket was blow so I replaced that too. Unfortunately I misplaced a headbolt as it's getting dark out so I'm postponing testing it out til tomorrow. also replaced the needle bearing in the piston, the old one looked bad.
