I maybe pushed the motor too hard and the muffler started sounding louder and was smoking by the end of a long ride.

As for making your fuel last as long as possible, aside from the obvious "Turn off the engine" and "pedal", what speed saves the most fuel? Does it not matter if i go fast or slow?

My fuel economy jumped when I got a shift kit. I get up to speed and shift up to the next gear and keep the rpms low. The higher the rpms the more fuel you use.
