I recently acquired an old beach cruiser I plan on kitting out. It only has cruiser brakes so I was planning on putting on some sort of rim brake. A friend of my told me the bike wheels couldn't handle rim brakes. Is this true? Or can i slap the appropriate rim brakes on to any bike? Thanks in advance for all responses.

Maybe si, maybe no. If your wheels are steel and have a curved profile, rim brakes could be a problem. They work best with a nice flat rim shoulder, preferably double wall.

As heavy and fast as MBs are, disc brakes are a real good idea.
