Rebuilding the 2002 Pacemaker II over the winter

Someone installed a replacement engine in my newly purchased 2002 Pacemaker II. I don't know what if anything is wrong with the old motor with about 2000 miles on it. It turns over and has compression, Should I take it apart and check for wear or should I buy the normal wear parts and then disassemble it? This is my first Whizzer after 60 years of envy since I was 15 years old.
