what about a standard jackshaft for a two stroke bike

In order to change drive ratios on the fly, you have to have a shifting mechanism.

Which is the final option you have to have a shift kit; which is what I use on my bike.

how does the motor spin the wheels without you having to pedal constantly

It has freewheels inside of the shift kit

but the pedals are fixed to the front sprocket which means that while the front sprocket is turning, so are the pedals?
maybe I don't understand it, but without changing the front chainring, that's how it seems to me

Well after 11 years of service I've decided to retire the auto shift LandRider. I did mods to the derailleur and it was working really good. However the hanger broke on the frame. It's a steel frame so I could repair it with a little welding. Still LandRider went out of business 5 years ago. So...

My engine is a 4 stroke 33cc 1.6 hp Robin Subaru. There's lots of mid-frame and rear rack mounted 4 stroke kits.
