Just a curiosity question. Lets say... "my friend", can't find a brake cable housing long enough for their needs. Can they use two cable housings butted up against each other? They probably wouldn't plan on this being a permanent fix, but they also probably won't ever do it the right way if it works.

I ran the green cables on my bike. Got the housings off eBay therefore I don't understand why he can't find what he needs. If you put cable ferrules in each end of the butt and tie wrap on each side of the butt it'll work.

it is a really long cable set-up. He wants to ride it to work on Monday. He doesn't wanna wait for shipping and he prepared poorly. Good thing this friend isn't me or I'd be embarassed.

Mine were really long. The thing is once you start doing rig jobs, it's only a matter of time you'll start compromising safety.

You could do as mentioned earlier, but slide heat shrink over 1st cable housing b4 installing 2nd cable housing & then heat shrink the 2 cable housing together.

When making a new cable the little Metal cable housing end just slips on.
You'll notice with Factory made cables the metal housing end is crimped on

If you would like to crimp on that little metal housing end
Here is how to make your own metal housing end crimping tool, To buy one is very expensive.

I made one out of an old pair of cheep wire cutters
