You guys ought to look into using one of these surplus 1 gal cans:

I'm planning on ordering a couple of these and cutting one horizontally and re-welding to make a 1/2 gal tank. (obviously, make sure there is no fuel/gas in it and let it air out for a week or so before doing this) Then weld or solder up a fuel feed off the bottom and drill a tiny vent hole in the lid. Would fit really nicely behind the seat on a small rear rack.
I use the larger 5-gal European cans on my offroad vehicles and they are darn near indestructible. Most the cans I have are almost 50 years old.
