For What its Worth.....have seen gas tanks that were cleaned out..welded with no problem...have seen gas tanks that were cleaned out that exploded when being welded..blew one up myself..tig welding an aluminum boat tank..hearing in my right ear has never fully returned but no serious injury

For those with this problem without access to gas etc, a trip to the local panel shop would be worthwhile. They all (used to) have oxy acetylene and bronze rods etc. (I started my working life as a panel beater.)
It wouldn't cost much to braze one tiny spot like that.
