pull starter w/out handle

purchased a 2 stroke pull starter off amazon played with it a few times ,instilled it on my 66cc engine. I gave it a few test pulls... nearly ripped hand off I realized I cant just yank the handle especially since the last time I pulled it The Handle broke ! that I have to pull it out until it engages with the magneto part, pull hard & fast and be ready for the recoil or compression to pull it out of my hand. Anyway has of you ever tried a knotted rope with out a handle? I was thinking about putting in a longer rope with a big knot to keep it from going all the way in, with 3 or 4" above that with a few knot for grip ! what do you guys think ? you think it would work

Make a better handle with a dowel.
