got fuel, got spark, can hear it popping but no start

cycled to where my car is to get a plug socket and pulled it, cycled back (20mins) with it out and engine turning over, put the plug back in and still nothing, definetly getting spark now inside the head (stuck on a light tester as i went) also while cycling with the plug out i could see sparks jumping out the plug boot to the engine (the lead was resting on the head) and a few times shocked my leg as i brushed it so definitely got some juice in it,
any thoughts where i can go from here?

you should probably wait for new CDI to arrive - frustration can build with these

Loss of compression (head or bearing seals), or fuel, that's the last 2 things need.
