Motorized Recumbent

thanks...I was hoping for some bolt-on ideas.

all I was trying to say was.....until we get more than just the 3 of us....we prolly won't get a new section.
However....If we can make this thread rock.....we've got a shot.

here's another member's motored bent. http://www.outsideconnection.com/gallant/hpv/powerAssist/powerAssist3.asp

here's his bike...

Hi, srdavo
Right, got you. Good point!
Here's a link to my personal blog that explains how I motorized my recumbent if you're interested:

Also, FWIW, I'm happy to answer any specific questions about my project. I'm no expert but I'm happy to tell you my story if it will help you.
I just bolted a frame to the bike and hung a motor mount on it. I ran a couple of cables and that was about it. I'm sure I didn't harm the bike at all.
Oh, except for the tire... That's wearing out a little faster. It's well worth it, though!

Have fun!

That's one sweet looking bent! It's about as tight as you can imagine! That must be a joy to ride. I wanted to fit my engine in that small space but didn't have the cajones to go after it.
That's PURTY!!!

Thanks for sharing!

That's an interesting design. Hmmmmmmm.....
Would I be right in thinking that you'd want the engine mounted to the white frame member because it moves up and down as a shock?
Or, could you hang a motor off the silver/black member at the end and let it float on the tire on a pivot?
I see some advantages and, as always, some possible disadvantages to motorizing that design...
It is one nice looking bent, though!

the motor will have to be mounted to the white swingarm....yes, there is an airshock.

the silver & black part....the black is the aluminum bike frame...the silver is a slide-out storage compartment.

getting bent

hi guys.... thought I'd jump right in here.....
I like friction drive....I have 2 bikes ,set up friction....one Staton...one homebuilt. I have not had any tire issues.

I have a bikeE.
It rides soooo comfy!
I want to motorize it....bad!
(I just don't want to mess up this cool bike)

there must be 3 of us bent riders now...hehehe.
I'm not seeing any resistance to a recumbent section. (Our admins are on vacation.)

this thread is a good place to start.
you guys can talk me into motoring up my bent.

best make that 4 bent riders. i made two more than two years ago. unfortunately, i didn't like the way they turned out. for the past week i've been rescue ing old street bikes and mountain bikes. i have four in the shed right now. this weekend i plan on building a LWB Delta trike. or at least getting started on it. plans in my head, ideas all over the internet. look at some of the bikes on http://www.endless-sphere.com and http://revelstone56.tripod.com/index.html
just for fun
