My first CUSTOM build

Ok, so I see everyone building their bike I figured I'd start my own build thread in hopes that I can get some good feedback and if anything ideas on where to go with everything. Here is a pic of the jig I setup and the bike sitting in roughly the place it will stand once done. This is a one off build and will be built with chromoly tubing, a pit bike engine, and a jackshaft assembly similar to what I have seen on the motopeds.com build and sickbikeparts jackshaft setup. What I have on order that should be here in a few days: exhaust, handle bars, sprockets for wheel and jack shaft, and disk brakes. What I have now: head tube, wheels and tires, engine, seat, track ends, throttle, carb, (air filter on order). What was custom made: the rear hub which is a dual disk rear from Phil Woods..This will give me disk brakes and bolt holes for the sprocket on either side of the hub. Tires are Hookworms and Halo SAS rims with a Halo Spin doctor from hub...using a Manitou Circus front fork(really stout little fork for the price)..Using a Cane Creek headset and the head tube is a 44mm 4130 tube from paragon machine works. Whats needed: tubing(measurments for tubing), 3/4" shaft for sprockets to ride on, a custom made bottom bracket or I might decide to go with SBP wide bottom bracket setup but not sure if will be wide enough for what I need(if anyone has exact measurements of how wide it is after pedals installed that would be awesome)

Now let me know your feedback..PLEASE!! 20131229_193439.jpg

I'm trying..all deciding to mount electrical where foot pegs go..not sure how hot the engine will get. Probably run the engine and see the temp and vibration also..just trying to really hide as much of everything as I can

I'm trying...really not sure about electrical because I don't know how hot the engine will get and how much vibration it will give off if I do mount electrical to an aluminum plate where the foot pegs go. My biggest test is trying to hide it as best as possible without having to add to much more to the bike. Really tryin to keep it as clean as possible

how hot do these engines run?

hmmms.

the cases will give you a surprise, maybe a red scald but nothing extreme. there wont be any flesh removed ;) thats the middle of summer after some serious abuse, mind you.

as for the cylinder... that lil baby holds some heat, being cast iron(usually). i guess most people avoid touching that bit anyways!

havent managed to get an exhaust to glow, and boy have i tried!

i said it before, but maybe it got lost in the meaningless post-fluff...

bling oil cooler :)

first, you need this bit... its replaces the lil finned cover on the head, which is the stock "cooler". (oil comes up the left lower stud, into cover, and is squirted down centre of camshaft)

allowing you to attach any of these...

i prefer the "radiator" style to these ones...

(no searching for good prices, just the first examples...)

only reason i run the CNC variety is cus theyre heavy duty which suits me and my habit of making my own trails... sometimes on purpose!

pretty sure youre engine does NOT have the lil oil feeders down on the lower left of the case? the 140cc+ do. and some of the more expensive 125's... i cant see any reason in having DOHC? can you? :giggle:

anyways. those ones sorta need to have the cooler fitted. yours...i did say bling, didnt i?

doesnt really do much for the heat, just keeps the oil going a bit longer. and this ones out in the open. not covered up and lugged up a 45 degree hill at full throttle :)

Build update

Man, what a crazy month. Hope you guys are doing good. Made a make shift gas tank to get her started and all I can say is this thing flies. The exhaust sounds mean and the mechanical avid bb7 brakes are not all that bad. The real gas tank is still in the works since I had to make a buck but it is done and now it's time to lay the metal. Here is a few pics for grins

im actually doing PHIL WOOD hubs on my gt2 build...they are awesome hubs...i used them for years when i rode bmx and never had a problem with them...ever used the phil grease on the bearings?its some great grease...i suggest you try it...

I have a Phil woods hub also but decided to use the hub I made. I think the Phil woods hub would still work just fine though. Maybe on the next build and if my sprockets had different hole pattern. If you need a hub though I have that Phil woods hub. It's a dual disk bolt pattern on both sides. Pm for pricing
