One thing I've never heard people talk about before. Is engine braking going down hill safe? Does it wear out these little China Girls?

Yea, don't do it. You deprive the engine of oil when using it to brake. Better to use the bike brakes and pull in the clutch.

I have a centrifugal clutch on my bike. For steep downhills where you may need to stop at the bottom do bump braking. This way you can keep yourself at a controlled speed that your brakes can stop you. When you're going downhill gravity and/or tailwind assist increases acceleration thus also increasing stopping distance.

This is where a good bicycle computer speedometer comes in handy. I prefer wired ones over wireless ones. Going downhill and/or having a strong tailwind at 30 mph can increase stopping distance by as much as 50-100+% compared to 30 mph on level ground with no wind.

With all due respect Jerry, your riding a 4 stroke with gears...Thats a whole different ballpark than doing it with 2strokes...Engine braking with 2 strokes is not recommended to be doing at all...I'm kinda fuzzy about the reasons why, I just know it is not recommended to do...Hopefully @Chainlube will see this and add some comment to this so you can be better informed.

It was an accident I was here at this time of day, I'm late for my beer drinking appointment.

Engine braking on a 4t is ok because the crankcase has oil in it where as a 2t has to rely on the fuel/oil mix. Take that mix away and run some high rpms going down a hill is a recipe for disaster.

36 on my newest bike damn it hates hills. but this was a cheap engine kit from ebay like 90 bucks for the kit
